Before and After CasesRead more below about these cases:
1) Patient with Crowding and Crossbite
This patient had moderate upper and lower crowding, the lower jaw was slightly larger than the upper jaw. There was a false bite leading to some of the top teeth biting behind the bottom teeth (a crossbite), the teeth were largish and there was some wear on the biting edges of the teeth. Treatment consisted of upper and lower braces without extractions. A small amount was smoothed between some of the front teeth to allow them to sit together better, and to make some room. The edges of some of the teeth were smoothed to disguise wear. The total time in treatment was 18 months.
2) Patient with Severe crowding and impaction
This patient had severe upper and lower crowding, an openbite (the front teeth not biting over the bottom teeth), some of the top teeth biting inside the bottom teeth (a crossbite), and the lower 12 year old molar teeth impacted (stuck in the jaw bone) at an angle of 45 degrees to the other teeth. Treatment consisted of four premolar extractions, followed by fixed upper
and lower braces. The impacted second molar tooth was brought into the
bite and the open bite eliminated. The front teeth remained in exactly
the same position in the face as before treatment with no changes to the
side profile.
3) Severe Crowding
This patient attended with severely crowded upper and lower teeth. Treatment was commenced with the extraction of four premolar teeth and the placement of fixed braces. At the end of treatment the teeth were nicely aligned and were sitting in a pleasant place in the face. There is adequate room for all the wisdom teeth to erupt.
4) Crooked Teeth and Spacing
This patient attended concerned about crooked and crowded lower teeth and crooked and spaced upper teeth. Treatment was non-extraction with fixed upper and lower braces.
5) Anterior Openbite
Anterior openbites can be caused by a habit such as thumbsucking, or may be present because the upper and lower jaws naturally grow apart when viewed from the side. They are normally associated with a tongue thrust swallow habit and sometimes a lisp. This patient was treated without extractions using elastics at the front of the teeth to pull them together.
